Blend it up with some ice and shake it up!
Guys and gals, I’m just going to be honest with all of you.
It was “one of those” weeks this past week for me. You know what I mean? One of those weeks that’s not bad, nothing horrible happened, (actually, it was a good week and I have lots I am grateful for), it’s just been one of those weeks that leaves you a little more run down and depleted than most.
When I have weeks like that, I tend to retreat. I’m an introvert by nature and withdraw when things get extra-busy and chaotic. It’s just who I am. So that’s why I’ve been posting a bit less this week and not quite as active on social media. But I’m still here, going strong, and I couldn’t wait to pop back in with a new post and thought today’s recipe would be perfect!
I never go a day without my morning green drink that I’m about to share with all of you. It’s even one of my favorite things I have each day before my coffee or first meal, and it always helps me feel my best no matter what the day ahead may bring!
This drink is packed with goodness, friends. Don’t let the green scare you away either!
I flavor this drink so it tastes like a lemony glass of wonderfulness, and then I pour it over ice which also makes it taste even better. But the way I FEEL after I drink this drink is really what makes me continue to use it each day.
My Morning Green Drink contains:
Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw Greens – this is one of my favorite greens powders because it’s made with raw, pure grass juices, not whole grasses. This makes it easy to digest and not taste like lawn mower clippings like a lot of green juice powders. Just sayin’ ! : )
Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw is also full of vegan and raw probiotics, enzymes, and contains digestive-boosting and energizing plant-based ingredients with NO sugar, dairy, soy, gluten, or fillers of ANY kind. I normally use the plain version, but I’m hooked on the apple flavor right now—it’s delish!
DõMatcha Matcha Green Tea – I fell in love with matcha tea a few years ago and have used it ever since. Just a little bit each day goes a long way in helping you feel energized and focused without the need for excessive caffeine. Matcha is also one of the most alkalizing versions of tea and greens you can consume because it’s raw green tea leaves that have never been heated.
Truly high-quality matcha should be extremely bright green in color, never muddy or brownish green in color. DõMatcha is my favorite brand (thanks to Kathy’s recommendation!), and I truly think it tastes the best of all the brands I’ve ever had over the years. I use the 2nd harvest organic version in my drinks each day and it lasts me about 3 months in the pantry, but if you really want to step it up a notch and use it for warm beverages, try the ceremonial grade matcha instead which is made to be better quality for heated beverages.
For the rest of this recipe, I also use raw apple cider vinegar which is great for digestion and cleansing (I swear by ACV), the juice of a lemon, ginger, a few stevia drops (just for flavor and sweetness), and that’s it. Since lemon is high in bioflavonoids that improve your gut health, skin, stress levels, and even aid in digestion, I always consume the juice of a lemon first thing in the morning.
You could also add turmeric and cayenne to boost this drink’s health benefits even more, but I normally just use the ingredients above. Any greens powder you like would also work, or you can just use the matcha powder–you choose!
- ½ cup cold filtered water
- 1 tsp. raw apple cider vinegar (organic is best, I like Bragg brand)
- ½ tsp. organic matcha green tea (I love DõMatcha brand)
- 1-2 tiny drops of liquid stevia (optional)
- 1 scoop your favorite greens (I enjoy Garden of LIfe's raw greens or Amazing Grass greens)
- dash of ginger
- juice of one lemon
- 5-6 ice cubes
- Add everything to a mini blender (such as a Nutribullet, for example) or a regular blender.
- Blend on low, then progress to high for 10 seconds until frothy and icy in texture.
- Pour into a glass, drink slowly, and enjoy!
Give this recipe a try one morning if you’re looking for a healthier way to start your day. It can take some getting used to, but it’s such a healthier, gentler way to wake up than heading straight for the coffee pot or a refined breakfast like a bagel.
I enjoy having my morning green drink before breakfast and coffee (if I’m drinking coffee that day). It’s also great to consume post-workout to reduce inflammation and lactic acid build-up in the muscles from exercise.
You can also check out my Matcha Maca Magic Green Smoothie which is another favorite way that I love to use matcha in blended recipes.
Have you ever had matcha tea?
