My Morning Green Drink is infused with alkalizing greens, energy-boosting and detoxifying matcha green tea, and contains probiotics, enzymes, and raw green juices to infuse the body with nature’s best source of energy. I call this my Green Ginger Lemonade juice, and it’s great for digestion and detoxifying on a daily basis.
Blend it up with some ice and shake it up!
Guys and gals, I’m just going to be honest with all of you.
It was “one of those” weeks this past week for me. You know what I mean? One of those weeks that’s not bad, nothing horrible happened, (actually, it was a good week and I have lots I am grateful for), it’s just been one of those weeks that leaves you a little more run down and depleted than most.
When I have weeks like that, I tend to retreat. I’m an introvert by nature and withdraw when things get extra-busy and chaotic. It’s just who I am. So that’s why I’ve been posting a bit less this week and not quite as active on social media. But I’m still here, going strong, and I couldn’t wait to pop back in with a new post and thought today’s recipe would be perfect!
I never go a day without my morning green drink that I’m about to share with all of you. It’s even one of my favorite things I have each day before my coffee or first meal, and it always helps me feel my best no matter what the day ahead may bring!
This drink is packed with goodness, friends. Don’t let the green scare you away either!
I flavor this drink so it tastes like a lemony glass of wonderfulness, and then I pour it over ice which also makes it taste even better. But the way I FEEL after I drink this drink is really what makes me continue to use it each day.
My Morning Green Drink contains:
Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw Greens – this is one of my favorite greens powders because it’s made with raw, pure grass juices, not whole grasses. This makes it easy to digest and not taste like lawn mower clippings like a lot of green juice powders. Just sayin’ ! : )
Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw is also full of vegan and raw probiotics, enzymes, and contains digestive-boosting and energizing plant-based ingredients with NO sugar, dairy, soy, gluten, or fillers of ANY kind. I normally use the plain version, but I’m hooked on the apple flavor right now—it’s delish!
DoMatcha Green Tea – I fell in love with matcha tea a few years ago and have used it ever since. Just a little bit each day goes a long way in helping you feel energized and focused without the need for excessive caffeine. Matcha is also one of the most alkalizing versions of tea and greens you can consume because it’s raw green tea leaves that have never been heated.
Truly high-quality matcha should be extremely bright green in color, never ruddy or brownish green in color. Do Matcha is my favorite brand (thanks to Kathy’s recommendation!), and I truly think it tastes the best of all the brands I’ve tried over the years. I use the 2nd harvest organic version in my drinks each day and it lasts me about 3 months in the pantry, but if you really want to step it up a notch and use it for warm beverages, their ceremonial grade matcha is the way to go!
Raw, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar- Just a teaspoon of this goes a long way at aiding digestion and improving the body’s alkalinity. I have used the Bragg brand for about 5 years now and think it tastes the best. It’s important to buy your apple cider vinegar raw, with the “mother” culture, and organic no matter what. This is the live version of apple cider vinegar and helps restore healthy levels of gut bacteria. It’s also useful for daily cleansing and nourishing to the gut lining. I’ve also found it improves the way my joints feel and skin looks too.
L-Glutamine Powder – If you’ve read my blog for awhile, you know I love L-Glutamine and use both the powder and pill form. L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body and also one of the most important for gut health, immunity, blood sugar levels, and joint health.
The gut consumes most of the L-Glutamine you consume for nourishment, so it’s important to take it several times a day when you’re looking to heal your gut or improve joint health. I notice a major difference in the way I feel if I don’t use it. I like to blend the powder up with my drinks and I take an L-Glutamine supplement before and after I workout. It does a little bit of everything and is completely tasteless.
Lemon Lime Stevia Water Drops – Oh, these are just too tasty! I love these little guys for flavoring drinks and they’re so cheap! No sugar, GMOs, gluten, soy, and all that jazz. Stevia helps lower blood sugar and blood pressure levels, and these water drops remind me of the flavor of lemon lime soda without the carbonation. These drops go perfectly in this drink too!
Organic Ginger Powder – This is my attempt to make an at home ginger-ale, but I have to tell you, ginger is also great if you suffer from gut issues. Ginger reduces nausea, indigestion, and it helps improve the overall function of your joints and blood flow by reducing inflammation and improving arterial health.
I also add the juice of one organic lemon since lemon is high in bioflavonoids that improve your gut health, skin, they reduce stress levels, and lemon juice even aids in digestion. Lemon is also useful for relieving inflammation and provides a nice flavor for this drink. I buy organic lemons if I can, but if not, I don’t sweat it!
You could also add turmeric and cayenne to boost this drink’s health benefits even more, but I normally go with the following ingredients above and stick to that. I can’t imagine not starting my day out with this drink, and it’s also great to consume post-workout to reduce inflammation and lactic acid build-up in the muscles from exercise.
If you decide to dry it, enjoy and let me know what ya’ think!
- 1/2 cup very cold, filtered water
- 1 scoop of Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw greens
- 1/2 tsp. DoMatcha Organic Matcha Green Tea powder
- 1/4 tsp. L-Glutamine powder
- 1 tablespoon Bragg apple cider vinegar
- juice from one lemon
- tiny drop of SweetDrops Water Drops Lemon Lime stevia liquid
- 3-4 large ice cubes
- Add all the ingredients to a mini blender like the Nutribullet or Magic Bullet.
- Blend and serve over more ice.
- Drink with a straw and enjoy!
- I drink this with a straw since the natural acids in apple cider vinegar and lemon juice can erode enamel if you drink it directly without a straw. It's also a little more fun this way too! 🙂
