Dairy-Free Chocolate Almond Raspberry Shake is a decadent, yet healthy, creamy delicious treat with a deep chocolate flavor and exotic notes of sweet and tart raspberries. Rich, thick and creamy, this shake is also one you’ll definitely want to grab a spoon for!
Rich and creamy chocolate shakes are absolutely a must for summertime. Am I right or am I right? 🙂
I remember as a child, I just loved going to get a chocolate milkshake with my parents and younger brother. It was always a special outing for the four of us, and I always got the same thing every single time we went: a plain chocolate shake with whipped cream and sprinkles; I didn’t even need a cherry on top of mine to make me happy! Just give me a thick, rich, and sweet chocolate shake that’s creamy and perfect for hot summer days!
I’m sure I’m not alone here when I say my childhood love for thick and creamy shakes never died, and although my shakes are very different than the kind I used to eat in terms of ingredients, my creativity and love behind shakes and smoothies has only grown with time.
As I grew up and started making my own blended recipes, I tinkered around with the ingredients in my shakes and came up with all kinds of concoctions that I absolutely loved. The best part? My new shakes were good for me too! You can truly have a healthy treat that makes you feel satisfied, that tastes good, and that make you feel energized instead of sluggish and heavy from a sugar coma.
And the great thing is, it’s really easy to make a plant-based shake without needing a bunch of fancy ingredients (or dairy), so why not go for it? All you need is a blender, some simple ingredients, just a few minutes, and you can have your own version of a chocolate shake right at home!
Rich and Creamy Chocolate Almond Raspberry Shake
Sweet and tangy raspberries are in this chocolate shake along with almonds, a little vanilla, and real chocolate (no fake stuff here!). Raspberries pair wonderfully with chocolate because the two of them both have an exotic flavor, not to mention they’re both packed with fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. This shake is health and beauty in a glass, friends!
The raspberries also increase the creamy, frosty factor and they’re one of the best sources of fiber and antioxidants you can consume of all fruits. Raspberries are also great for your brain, blood sugar levels, blood pressure levels, digestive health, and your heart. Bring on the raspberries, please!
Here’s what else is in my Rich and Creamy Chocolate Almond Raspberry Shake:
To make a creamy, rich shake like traditional shakes were made of, you need a thick and creamy factor. So, instead of using regular ice cream and dairy milk which are full of hormones, milk sugar, and insulin-spiking properties, I’m using creamy, smooth unsweetened almond milk by Silk and half a frozen banana (but you could sub mango if you don’t want to use banana).
Then I’ve added frozen organic raspberries (from Target), some vanilla extract and a little stevia which both add sweetness and flavor without sugar or artificial ingredients, raw cacao powder (or you could use cocoa powder), a handful of raw almonds (or almond butter would work just fine), and that’s it! I also think raw cacao nibs would be great in this smoothie if you want to add a little extra chocolate-chip crunch!
Want more protein in your shake? No problem! Add a half scoop of Vega One chocolate or your favorite chocolate plant-based protein powder. Done and done!
I topped my shake with a couple of frozen raspberries, (a small dusting of cacao powder would also be delish!), and let me tell you… this shake is truly a wonderful way to get a sweet fix without consuming added sugars or animal products for a healthier option.
Dairy-free shakes truly can be delicious, healthy, and decadent!
Serving Tips: Just for Fun
I like to serve my shakes (and smoothies) with an old-fashioned long ice cream spoon, and they’re also so cute served up in an old-fashioned ice cream sundae glass. Feel free to serve your shake however you like. Enjoy!
- 1.5 cups of unsweetened vanilla non-dairy milk (I used Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk)
- 2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
- 2 tablespoons of raw almonds (or 1 tbsp. raw almond butter)
- ½ tsp. vanilla extract (I used alcohol-free vanilla extract)
- 1 cup of frozen raspberries
- 2 full drops of alcohol-free liquid stevia (or ½ tsp. pure stevia extract- I prefer NuNaturals brand)*
- a large frozen, ripe banana peeled and chopped into pieces (or you could sub frozen mango)
- (optional): boost the protein and add a scoop of chocolate flavored plant-based protein (I love Vega One Chocolate in this shake)
- Add all the ingredients into the blender in the order listed and blend on low, then progress to high until thick and creamy.
- Scoop the mixture into a tall glass and top with frozen or fresh raspberries. You can also add raw cacao nibs, a dusting of cocoa powder, and almond slices for a pretty garnish too. I hope you love it!
Happy shake-making friends! 🙂
